Well Hatteras Island and many places on the East coast were devastated by Hurricane Irene on Aug 27, 2011. Among the worst hit was Hatteras Island NC new inlets were created by the hurricane and NCDOT is in the process of building a temporary bridge after Pea Island before Rodanthe. The other breaches are being filled with sand and then new road on NC 12. So Sunday morning Aug 28th my sister Patti called and asked if I want to go to Surf City on Topsail Island, NC. Of course I wanted to and we booked a smaller house none of the bells and whistles we usually rent for our annual family vacation. I saw 3 sharks swimming in the ocean while at Surf City never in all the years going to the beach have I seen sharks swimming in the water. Yes I know that is where they live but one never actually wants to see them! Here are a few pictures of our Topsail Island vacation 2011.
